What I've Discovered
It's been a crazy few months since I last wrote. Time flies. Between studies, medical appointments and general life it gets hard to find time to write.
In this episode I'd like to share what I've discovered since I last wrote. I feel there's been a lot of new things in my life. All of it useful to me but no doubt not useful to everyone.
Day One App
I've been journalling in this app over the years and decided to use it again. Not really something new. However it was great to see some of my old entries and how things were during covid times. It was interesting enough for me to take up journalling again. Not long journals. I'm more of a sweet and small kind of journalling person.
Reuteri Yoghurt
I've been on a health kick after taking antibiotics for over a year. One of the items I've been researching is the brain-gut link to health. I came across Reuteri yoghurt and it's supposedly health benefits. It needs a slow (36 hours) and low (38 degrees) fermentation time so had to get a yoghurt maker that could handle that. Only making my first batch as I write this article. Will have to report back on how it goes.
Kefir
Again these are one of those things that is a work in progress. Been having my first batches come through this week. I think that there are different strains of Kefir and I'll need to find the one that best suits. Even though I've got one that isn't working as I expect it to I have noticed that my digestion has markedly improve. I've had constant IBS issues and this has really settled me down. I really recommend everyone drink Kefir if they can get a chance. Make sure it's not the store bought one as well. The store bought ones are watered down and filtered. You need to make it yourself to get the full benefit.
Australia's and probably the worlds standard of living is going backward
Hate moaning about this stuff. However Perth has seen a population explosion here. It's nearly impossible to book a doctor unless it's a week in advance, traffic has significantly increased, house prices going to the moon, cost of everything increased significantly. I know some countries may be worse but hey daunting to see such a drastic change after living here for 10 years.
Swimming
Started up swimming again. I've been dealing with some physical issues that rule out any hardcore cardio. However decided to try swimming and I can report that I really enjoy it. No stress on the joints. It builds decent endurance and for me it's relaxing. Maybe that's due to the fact I don't have earpods in and I'm just there to do laps. There isn't a huge amount of people around as well. I think swimming isn't the most popular pastime these days compared to gym and running etc.
Pilotedge
I'm a flight simulator fanatic. I basically fly GA everywhere, usually in a Cessna 172. I've been trying to get better at flight procedures and ATC is one of the areas I'm keen to improve on. They have a training module as well for both VFR and IFR. It's a little different to VATSIM where it's run by the community. In Pilotedge it's run by staffed professionals who know their ATC upside down. I recommend it if you're a flight sim enthusiast. You need to pay to use it.
Strong
If you need an app for tracking then I recommend Strong in the iOS store. It works. It's got timers. You can make templates. It's fast. There's a yearly subscription.
Evernote
I've been off and on again with Evernote. The last time I got off it because it was just slow. I'm glad to see Bending Spoons have been hard at work and the iOS app speed has markedly improved. I really like using it. Just everything is where it should be. It's expensive but if it fits your use case then worth it. I would always find limitations in other note taking apps when comparing to Evernote, so decided I'll stick to Evernote for the foreseeable future.
No Carbs
I've found I feel a lot better not eating refined carbs. When I say carbs I mean stuff like Pasta and Rice. Not having pasta or rice was an adjustment that took longer than expected but my sleeps are better, I've lost some weight and I don't get those big post lunch nap crashes.
PixFolio
I take a lot of pictures with my DSLR. As much as I would like to hang frames all over my house I don't have the energy or money to do that and I just want to see my own photos when I'm working on my computer. I found PixFolio on the iOS store that allows me to do that. It also had an Apple TV app so that you can turn your TV into a photo frame. Once off purchase required.
Studying is Hard
I forgot how much time is needed to study. Since re-picking up a Law degree it's been harder than I thought in finding time to sit and study. I'm sure I'll get into the groove of things.
Lego Tintin
I picked up the Tintin lego rocket. For those in the know then you know.
Patreon Zumikito
I've been into painting Warhammer figurines. I discovered Zumikito on YouTube but also found his Patreon. I recommend it if you're into Warhammer painting.
Microsoft CoPilot
Since retirement I haven't been much into AI. Just the odd question here and there. However with my Office 365 subscription that I need for University I get to use CoPilot. It's been pretty good. Especially around my health. It seems to remember everything I've discussed for the last 3 or so months. Pretty impressed. The app is pretty good too. Worth trying if you have it bundled with Office 365.
